Episode 4: The Beast Within

After an emotional cutscene ending the 'Like Another Lifetime' mission, 'Beast Unleashed' is added to your journal. While Chimeras pose a huge threat to the people at City Hall, there was an even more powerful enemy present at the time - the 'Beast'. Extremely aggressive and fast, Jacob worries this creature will return to finish the massacre it started.

🏆 Reward: Completing 'Beast Unleashed' grants 10,000 XP and 500 Old World Currency.

Talk to Jacob

Begin the 'Beast Unleashed' mission by talking to Jacob to learn more about the Beast's first appearance. The Sheriff will interject, saying she saw the Beast escape along the rooftops when she was at the tower top.

Hunt the Beast Before the Trail Goes Cold

Use the rope to reach the second floor. Head toward the UV lights and climb the newly appeared ladder to reach the tower top. Use your Survivor Sense to highlight the creature's tracks. Follow them across the rooftops until an explosion occurs. The Sheriff will tell you over the radio to head to the explosion site to look for signs of your prey.

Investigate the Explosion Site

The explosion happened at a military vehicle near a location under the bridge. The area has infected that you need to deal with before you get a chance to investigate the Baron's men's corpses. This squad of soldiers was massacred. When you inspect the bodies, you receive an emergency message over the radio from a surviving soldier. Quickly head to the church to rescue anyone who might still be alive.

Head to the Church

Old Town's church isn't too far from the explosion site. When you step onto holy ground, another message comes through saying the creature is coming up from the basement. Checking the main entrance doors is useless as they're all locked.
Head to the Church

Investigate the Basement Entrance

To enter the basement, walk to the stairs at the far end of the church and go down to find a smashed iron door. Going straight gives you a clear view of what you'll encounter when moving through the dark area. However, you need to squeeze through the opening right next to the smashed iron door. Stay crouched and use your Survivor Sense, as the room is full of sleepers. Sneak past them and avoid the wandering infected, heading to the far right corner of the room. Once there, climb onto the small platform. Then move the planks blocking your way to the entrance to the church's main area. Here you'll get your first glimpse of the Beast, which then escapes through the church roof.

Chase the Beast

Due to all the commotion, the sleepers from the basement are now awake. You have a brief moment to decide whether to fight or start climbing the walls. Many of these infected can perform basic climbing, so just getting to the top of the scaffolding won't keep you out of danger. But it will reduce the number of enemies attacking you simultaneously, and kicking them off platforms can give you more breathing room against other enemies.

Climb the Tower - Part 1

Whether you decide to fight first or deal with zombies later, you must eventually start climbing the church walls to catch the Beast. Move along the ledges on the wall, jumping from one pillar to another until you reach the wooden platform at the end of the building. Before continuing the chase, kick down the folding ladder. This way, if something happens, you can start climbing from this point instead of having to begin from the tower side again.

Climb the Tower - Part 2

To reach the other side of the building (where you originally started, but higher), jump toward the first chandelier. Jump to the second one, then leap toward the rope. Swing to the rocky outcrop above the altar on your first attempt. If you wait, you might lose momentum and fall. Once on the outcrop, jump toward the wooden ledge on the opposite side of the fountain (on your left when facing the chandeliers). When you land, you'll have to face one or two infected. Deal with them, then start climbing again.

Reach the Rooftop

At the end of the wooden beam, jump across the room toward the open window directly in front of you. Now you're on the rooftop - use your Survivor Sense to track the Beast's trail.

Find the Beast in the Train Tunnel

Once you enter the tunnel, simply follow the yellow glow sticks marking the path. There are infected along the way that you need to clear. When you go down the stairs to the bottom and reach what seems like a dead end, you'll face a large infected enemy. Use the opportunity weapon pitchfork to deal massive damage, then attack it with regular weapons. Once the area is clear, push open the half-open door of the first storage car on the right side of the room entrance. There you'll be able to cross to the other side of the tracks and continue hunting the Beast.

Escape the Tunnel

While you might want to confront the Beast head-on, the tunnel collapse changes everything. Plus, with a massive horde of infected converging on the location, you need to run back the way you came as fast as possible. Don't fight! If you fight, you won't make it to the sunlight at the train tunnel entrance. Use paths that seem harder to traverse. Many places have horizontal bars you can swing across, easy jumps, or narrow planks that let you reach the other side. This will slow down the horde and give you some room to escape alive.
